Afaultofthiscableduetoafirewouldhaveeliminated theUnit2Alternate feed-totheUnit1LSIpanels.TheUnit1normalpowerfeedtotheLSIpanelswasalreadyassumedlostforafireinanyoftheseareasbecausevariouscablesassociated withtheavailability ofMCC1-ABC-Bwouldhavebeenlost.OnSeptember 6,1990,itwassubsequently discovered thatasimilarcondition existedfortheUnit2LSIpanels.Apostulated fireinoneoftheUnit2fireareascouldhaveresultedinaninability tomaintainpowertotheLSIpanels.Thefollowing describes theanalysisperformed.

Theinverters arelocatedinFireArea41(FireZone42C).Therefore, normalcontrolroomindication ofprocessmonitoring wouldhavebeenavailable forfireinArea40.b.FireAreas48and492Underconservative assumptions oflossoffunctionforanareafire,theSSSAshowsthatforafireinAreas48and49boththecontrolroomandtheLSIpanelindications wouldhavebeenlost.However,FireAreas48and49areprovidedwithadequatesuppression anddetection tosubstantially mitigatetheimpactonnormalandLSIinstrumentation.
