Notification by the Emergency Diesel Generator vendor that a speed switch has a potential problem which could result in a component failure.

7. Description of Occurrence:

l The speed switch in the Emergency Diesel Generator had the potential j problem which could result in a component failure.

9. Analysis of Occurrence:

The decision to replace the speed switch was made knowing that when the motor is at approximately 810 rpm, it will excite the generator and should it malfunction during this start-up, it could have caused overloading and possible further damage to the generator. There was no hazard to the health and sa'fety of the public since the other diesel

. generator was unaffected and the reactor had never been critical.

The switch was replaced with one canufactured by another vendor and was satisfactorily tested.
