NRC MONTHLY OPERATING REPORT OPERATING

SUMMARY

DECEMBER 1998 UNIT ONE

%e unit began the month opern!.ing at 100% power. At 2100 hours0.0243 days
0.583 hours
0.00347 weeks
7.9905e-4 months
on the eleventh, a power reduction to 85% was con ment;ed for the monthly turbine governor valve testing. Following the completion of the monthly Woine governor valve test, the unit was returned to 100% power at 0102 hours0.00118 days
0.0283 hours
1.686508e-4 weeks
3.8811e-5 months
the following day. At 0851 hours0.00985 days
0.236 hours
0.00141 weeks
3.238055e-4 months
on the twenty-fifth, the unit was manually taken off line when an unusually large nu.'ber of fish, threadfin shad approximately 3 inches long, stunned by the colder water 'emperature:, (A structed circulating water flow through the traveling screens.

After removing the uh from the in;2ke structure and making repairs and minor modifications to the traveling screens, the reactor was taken critical at 2230 hours0.0258 days
0.619 hours
0.00369 weeks
8.48515e-4 months
on the twenty-seventh and the turbine was placed on line at 0716 hours0.00829 days
0.199 hours
0.00118 weeks
2.72438e-4 months
the next day. At 0842 hours0.00975 days
0.234 hours
0.00139 weeks
3.20381e-4 months
on the twenty-eighth, the unit was manually taken offline from 12% power when another major fish intrusion obstructed circulating water flow into the intake structure, causing damage to the traveling screens. The unit was shutdown for the remainder of the month with repair and improvement efforts in progress.

There were no challenges to the primary system code safeties nor automatic actuations of the electromatic relie f valve during this reporting period.
