SUBJECT:

INDUSTRY-PROPOSED MATERIAL, ENVIRONMENT, AGING EFFECTS, AND PROGRAM COMBINATIONS FOR THE GALL REPORT UPDATE

Dear Mr. Marion:

Thank you for providing additional industry comments regarding proposed material, environment, aging effects and program combinations in your letter dated July 30, 2004. This information supplements your May 11, 2004 submittal of NEIs proposed method for updating the Generic Aging Lessons Learned (GALL) Report. The NEI document Suggested Changes to NUREG-1801" states its objective is to increase the number of direct matches with aging management review (AMR) results of future plant license renewal applications (LRAs). This is consistent with our goal of improving the reports effectiveness and efficiency, where applicable to the plant LRA. Your additional comments will be considered during this ongoing update.

We will continue to engage NEI and other stakeholders during this update process. We provided a status update of this project during the public meeting on August 3, 2004, and we will contact Fred Emerson regarding arrangements for future meetings.

If you have any questions regarding this matter, please have your staff contact Jerry Dozier at 301-415-1014 or Amy Hull at 301-415-4095.

Sincerely,

/RA/
