SUBJECT:
DRAFT OF REVISED INSPECTION PROCEDURE IP-71003, POST-APPROVAL SITE INSPECTION FOR LICENSE RENEWAL
Dear Mr. Riley:
As discussed in previous telephone conferences and meetings, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or staff) staff was in the process of revising Inspection Procedure (IP)
IP-71003, Post-Approval Site Inspection for License Renewal. The staff has now completed its reviewing of the procedure, and the previously issued IP-71003 has now been revised. This review involved the staff from the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation (NRR)/Division of License Renewal, the staff from the NRR/Division of Inspection and Regional Support and experienced renewal inspection personnel from the NRCs four regional offices. Information that was discussed with Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) and representatives from the industry during past telephone conferences and meetings has also been considered and incorporated in this revision, where appropriate.
The staff is forwarding a copy of the subject draft IP for stake-holders review and comment.
The staff solicits comments on the scope of, and/or, any clarity concerns contained in the draft IP. The final IP will be issued after making any necessary changes received from stake-holders and will be made publicly available. The NRC staff's disposition of your comments on the draft IP will be discussed prior to the staffs issuance of the final IP for implementation.
To facilitate the NRC staff's review of your comments, please provide a marked-up copy of the draft IP showing proposed changes and provide a summary table of the proposed changes. If you have any questions, please contact Dr. Rajender Auluck, Branch Chief, at 301-415-1025 or via e-mail at rca@nrc.gov.
An identical letter is being sent to Mr. David Lochbaum at the Union of Concerned Scientists for comments.
Sincerely,
/RA/
