NRC Additional Activities in 2013 In 2013, NRC performed an additional 1000 hours0.0116 days <br />0.278 hours <br />0.00165 weeks <br />3.805e-4 months <br /> of effort beyond the 2000 hours0.0231 days <br />0.556 hours <br />0.00331 weeks <br />7.61e-4 months <br /> allocated for routine baseline inspections.

NRC used these additional hours to:

• Review corrective actions implemented to address performance problems in 2011 and 2012.

• Increase public communication to address the publics public s concerns about plant performance 9

NRC Additional Activities in 2013

• S Safety f t Conscious C i Work W k Environment E i t (SCWE) -

an environment where personnel feel free to raise safety concerns without fear of retaliation, intimidation, harassment, or discrimination.

• All NRC licensees and contractors are expected to establish and maintain a SCWE which contributes to the safe operation of NRC-regulated facilities.

• Control Rod Drive Mechanism Housing Inspection

• Reactor Vessel Foreign Material Inspection

• Safety Injection Refueling Water Tank (SIRWT) Inspection 12

Control Rod Drive Mechanism (CRDM) Housings

• During Spring 2014 Refueling Outage, Outage Palisades identified flaws in 17 of 45 CRDM housings

• NRC inspectors observed CRDM housing testing and reviewed licensee evaluations

• No through-wall through wall leakage identified

• Licensee replaced all CRDM housings

• NRC evaluating the appropriate frequency of future CRDM housing inspections 13

Reactor Vessel Foreign g Material

• NRC experts reviewed the licensees evaluation

• NRC concluded no impact to plant or public health and safety

• Review of licensee corrective actions continues 14

Safety Injection Refueling Water Tank (SIRWT)

• SIRWT contains water to cool the reactor core and containment building during accidents and for adjusting water level during outages

• SIRWT has leaked over the years and Palisades has performed numerous repairs

• NRC observed replacement of SIRWT bottom
