==SUBJECT:==
RESPONSE TO THE ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON REACTOR SAFEGUARDS REPORT ON THE SAFETY ASPECTS OF THE LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION FOR WATERFORD STEAM ELECTRIC STATION, UNIT 3

==Dear Dr. Corradini:==

During the 658th meeting of the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards held from November 1-3, 2018, the Committee completed its review of Entergy Operations, Inc.s license renewal application for Waterford Steam Electric Station, Unit 3 (WF3). The Committee also reviewed the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staffs associated final safety evaluation report for this application.
In the Committees final report dated November 21, 2018, the Committee agreed with the NRC staff that there are no open license renewal issues that would prevent the NRC from issuing a renewed WF3 operating license authorizing an additional 20 years of operation. The Committee also concluded that Entergys aging management programs provide reasonable assurance that it can operate WF3 in accordance with its current licensing basis for the period of extended operation without undue risk to the health and safety of the public. As such, the Committee concluded that the NRC should approve the WF3 license renewal application.
The NRC staff appreciates the Committees objective and in-depth review of both the WF3 license renewal application and the staffs final safety evaluation report.
As always, the NRC staff recognizes the Committees important role in the license renewal process and appreciates the Committees continuing commitment to safety.
Sincerely,
                                              /RA/

RESPONSE TO THE ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON REACTOR SAFEGUARDS REPORT ON THE SAFETY ASPECTS OF THE LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION FOR WATERFORD STEAM ELECTRIC STATION, UNIT 3

Dear Dr. Corradini:

Sincerely,

/RA/
