Serial No.: 18-120 Docket No.: 50-281 Attachment RESPONSE TO REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION REGARDING SURRY UNIT 2 SPRING 2017 STEAM GENERATOR TUBE INSPECTIONS By letter dated October *16, 2014 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System Accession No. ML 17310A235}, Virginia Electric and Power Company (Dominion), the licensee, submitted information summarizing the results of the spring 2017 steam generator (SG) inspections performed at Surry Power Station, Unit 2. In order to complete its review, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff requests the following additional information.

The Dominion response is provided below. 1. In Table 3 (pages 5 -6) of the October 26, 2017, report, four indications are noted in three tubes in SG B (row 18, column 81 (two indications), row 34 column 66, and row 41 column 42). According to the table, all four of these indications were present prior to the 2017 outage and showed no change since 2014, yet are being initially reported in the 2017 inspection report. Since Technical Specification Section 6.6.3.d requires the reporting of location, orientation (if linear), and measured sizes (if available) of. service induced indications, please confirm

  • the accuracy of the information included in Table 3. If the four indications were identified prior to 2017, please discuss any insights into why they were not reported previously.

Please also confirm that all service-induced indications that were identified during the spring 2017 outage were included in the October 26, 2017, report. RESPONSE:

The information presented in Table 3 in the October 26, 2017 report is accurate.

The four (4) indications in question are very small and located at tlie top of the tubesheet, adjacent to the expansion transition.

Due to the small amplitude of the indications, they are .difficult to identify and were not detected prior to the spring 2017 examination.

However, once the. indications were identified during the 2017 examination, an historical evaluation was performed and determined the indications were present in the 2014 data. Consequenfly,*

the 2014 data was compared to the 2017 data, and it was concluded the indicaUoris had not changed during_ that time period. All identified service-induced

  • indications are included in the spring 2017 Surry Unit 2 Steam Generator Tube Inspection Report. Page 1 of 1
