Waterford Steam Electric Station Unit Number 3 NPDES Permit No. LA 0007374

Dear Mr. Knudson:

On March 13, 1985, the oil and grease concentration at outfall 003 was 27 mg/1, which exceeded our permit limitation of 20 mg/1. This outfall serves a gravity flow system which' exhibits very low flow, and we attribute this noncompliance to a buildup of materials in the discharge from the of1/ water separator because of this condition. This outfall is currently under evaluation to determine a long term solution for this situation. In response to this specific noncompliance, the outfall is being cleaned again, and algal growth which has recently appeared in the outfall chamber is being removed. It is expected that the outfall will be within compliance no later than March 20, 1985 when it is scheduled.to be sampled again.
