The information is as initially received without verifi-cation or evaluation, and is basically all that is known by the Region II staff on this date.

SUBJECT:

INJURED WORKER TRANSPORTED TO HOSPITAL A contractor employee was injured while working inside the contamination control area today when refractory material fell on his back. He was working inside the radioactive waste incinerator installing new refractory material when some of it fell approximately two feet onto his back. The anti-contamination clothing he was wearing was removed and surveys were conducted before transport to a local hospital. He was accompanied by a licensee health l physics technician.

The injury was apparently a deep bruise, and tests for possible kidney damage are being >

performed.

Media interest has occurred. The licensee reports that a TV crew was waiting at the hospital when the ambulance arrived.

The licensee may issue a press release.

The State of South Carolina has been informed. q The NRC (Region II) received initial notification of this event by telephone from the licensec at 11:15 a.m. (EDT) on July 2.
