SUBJECT:

REVISION OF SCHEDULE FOR THE ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW OF THE NORTH ANNA POWER STATION, UNITS 1 AND 2, SUBSEQUENT LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION (EPID NUMBER: L-2020-SLE-0000) (DOCKET NUMBERS: 50-338 AND 50-339)

Dear Daniel Stoddard:

By letters dated August 24, 2020, (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System ML20246G703), Dominion Energy submitted an application for subsequent license renewal of Renewed Facility Operating License Nos. NPF-4 and NPF-7 for the North Anna Power Station, Unit Nos. 1 and 2 (North Anna) to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) pursuant to section 103 of the Atomic Energy Act of 1954, as amended, and part 54 of title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Requirements for renewal of operating licenses for nuclear power plants. This letter is to inform you about a schedule change in the North Anna license renewal review.

In March 2023, the NRC staff completed its environmental audit of the application as scheduled.

However, because of impacts of multiple unplanned license renewal and subsequent license renewal applications currently being reviewed and anticipated to be reviewed in the next two years, the NRC is revising the schedule for the issuance of the final site-specific environmental impact statement (EIS) for North Anna to July 2024. This change of the final EIS issuance allows the needed time for the staff to adjust for the overlapping of multiple ongoing and future projects. Specifically, this lengthens the time between the issuance of the North Anna draft site-specific EIS and the final EIS, consistent with normal EIS development schedules.

D. Stoddard This revision of schedule was discussed with Paul Aiken of your staff. If you have any questions on the revised schedule, please contact Vaughn Thomas or Tam Tran by telephone at 301-415-5897 or 301-415-3617 or via e-mail at Vaughn.Thomas@nrc.gov or Tam.Tran@nrc.gov.

Sincerely, Signed by Regan, Christopher on 04/05/23 Christopher Regan, Director Division of Rulemaking, Environment, and Financial Support, Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards Docket Nos. 50-338 and 50-339
