December 17, 2020 Mr. Daniel G. Stoddard Senior Vice President and Chief Nuclear Office Innsbrook Technical Center 5000 Dominion Blvd Glen Allen, VA 23060-6711

SUBJECT:

NORTH ANNA POWER STATION, UNITS 1 AND 2 -

SUMMARY

OF THE SUBSEQUENT LICENSE RENEWAL SEVERE ACCIDENT MITIGATION ALTERNATIVES AUDIT (EPID NUMBER: L-2020-SLE-0000)

(DOCKET: 50-338 AND 50-339)

Dear Mr. Stoddard:

A review team consisting of staff from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or the staff) participated in a severe accident mitigation alternatives (SAMA) audit on December 9, 2020, via teleconference, as part of the North Anna Power Station, Units 1 and 2, (North Anna) subsequent license renewal application environmental review. The goal of the audit was to review documentation and gather information to ensure that the environmental requirements for subsequent license renewal, as codified in Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 51, were met. A letter dated December 4, 2020 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System Accession No. ML20337A022) was sent to you containing an audit plan.

The enclosure to this letter provides a list of representatives from the NRC and Dominion Energy who participated in the December 9, 2020 audit. During the audit, participants discussed topics relevant to the SAMA analysis in accordance with the audit questions listed in the December 4, 2020 audit plan.

At the conclusion of the audit, the NRC staff summarized the status of the review with Dominion representatives. All of the NRCs questions identified in the audit plan or during the audit were satisfactorily addressed through the conduct of the audit. The staff did not identify any need for request for additional information (RAI).

While the NRC staff did not identify any significant issues during this audit, the staff indicated that the review was ongoing and that any additional information necessary to support the review would be formally requested via the RAI process. In addition, Dominion energy agreed that the electronical reading room portal will be open for the SAMA review until the staff completes the draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement for North Anna.

D. Stoddard 2 If you have any questions on this matter, please contact Mr. Tam Tran by telephone at 301-415-3617 or via e-mail at Tam.Tran@nrc.gov.

Sincerely, Signed by Elliott, Robert on 12/17/20 Robert B. Elliott, Chief Environmental Review License Renewal Branch Division of Rulemaking, Environment, and Financial Support, Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards Docket Nos. 50-338 and 50-339
