Notification of Facility Director Interim Alternate for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission Licensed Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installations: Fort Saint Vrain, Three Mile Island, and Idaho Spent Fuel Facility (CLN220770)
This memo is to inform you of an interim alternate named to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Facility Director position for the subject Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installations (ISFSI), as requested by Mr. Steven Ahrendts. On January 31, 2022, in his recent search of an external employment opportunity, Mr. Ahrendts recused himself from activities involving oversight of a contractor paramount to the activities conducted within the Idaho Cleanup Project portfolio, which includes his responsibilities as ISFSI Facility Director for the subject facilities. At that time, Mr.
Ahrendts nominated Mr. Steven Wahnschaffe to serve as the alternate NRC Facility Director (in addition to the NRC License Manger role) throughout the recusal period.
Prior to his recusal, Mr. Ahrendts reviewed the qualifications of Mr. Wahnschaffe and found him to be acceptable to perform as the interim alternate Facility Director for the NRC Licensed Facilities. In consultation with our DOE legal team, I acknowledged the recusal request and accepted Mr. Wahnschaffe as an interim alternate Facility Director for the subject ISFSIs. This interim alternate designation was effective January 31, 2022. Providing this update to you in writing aligns with the respective technical specification designating the facility director position.
