Section2.5.3oftheapplicationrelies ontheinformationofClinch RiverEarlySitePermit applicationsearthquakecatalog,whichendsin2013.An updated(20132021) earthquake catalogshouldbeprovidedto demonstratethattheassumptionsandconclusionsinthe CRNPSHAremainvalid.

KairosPowerResponse:

Thepossible changesinearthquakeactivityintheHermes,andClinch RiverNuclear(CRN),

siteregionduringthe20132021periodrelativetotheCRNrateshavenotyetbeen finalized.ThePSARreflectsanassumptionthattheClinchRiverEarly SitePermitapplication earthquakecatalogisrepresentativeoftheseismicactivitytobeexpectedat theHermes site, basedonproximityto CRNandthefactthatrecentseismicactivityintheCentraland EasternUnitedStates (CEUS)sincethe2012MineralVirginiaearthquakeeventhasnot been significant.

Kairos Powerisnot requesting finalapprovalofaseismichazard designprofileforHermes aspartofthePSAR.The information providedissufficienttodeterminesuitablyofthesite fortheproposeduseofa testreactor.TheHermesOperatingLicenseApplicationwill reporttheseismichazardwithupdatedearthquakecatalogrecurrencerates.

KairosPowerResponse:

Boringdataclosestto theproposedHermesreactor locationindicatesthetopofthe weathered rockisencounteredata depthofapproximately13.5ft.,andthetopofsound rock at a depthofapproximately30 ft.Theoverburdensoilsandtheweatheredrockwillbe excavated. Belowtheweatheredrock,soundbedrockrecoveredfromtheboringsdrilled showsnoevidenceoftheweakeningorweatheringthatisobservedintheinterfacecloser to thesurface.TheHermesfoundationwillbedeployedoveranengineeredcrushedstone orleanconcretefillplaced directlyoversoundrock. Theexcavationisplannedtoreachthe approximately30ftdepth,exposingthesurface ofthefoundationrocktoallowfor inspectionandsurface preparation.Theseactivities,boringdataandfoundationrock inspectionfollowingexcavation,willallowthedeterminationto bemade thatthe foundationrockshowsnoevidenceofkarsticdissolution.
