Pt 72 I&C 72.122 (i)

NRC has given exemptions to 72.122 (i)- to Robinson, Calvert, and Oconee. The basis was that "due to the passive design and inherent safety of the NUHOMS-7P cask, no instrumentation and control systems are required for the dry shielded canister and the horizontal storage module (DSC and HSM) system during storage operations." This is the only basis I have found. I am trying to find out a few more details re the exemption basis and will let you know.

I Re the Part 72 change to allow use of Part 50 Appendix B ---the basis is that if App B is adequate for Reactors, it should also be adequate for ISFSIs, except that the records section might be different. Some utilities may want to uso App B even if it is more stringent than QA in Pt 72 because they are

' familiar with it.
