Attachment I Application for a Department of the Anay Permit Items 6. & 14. Description of the Proposed Activity.

The proposed activity enteils the maintenance dredging of approximately 70,000 cubic yards of bottom sediment from the South Branch and main stem of Forked River and adjacent lagoons. The general project area is depicted un the accompanying project .leawings. The exact locations a nil quantity of material to be removed may be modified in the field while dredging is being performed.

Dredging is to be accomplished hydraulically with dredge spoils being pumped directly to the designated upland disposal site (sheet 2 of 2) which is owned by Jersey Cent ral Power & Light Company (JCP&L) which, like the applicant, is a subsidiary of General Pu blic Utilities Corporation. The dredge spoils consist primarily of sitt and clay with some fine to coarse sand.

Spoils also may contain low levels of radioactivity (see Table 2) as a result of the operation of the Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station (OCNGS).

proposed dredging will restore navigability in the project area, All users of the waterway, both public and private will benefit from the proj ect .

Dredging will occur during the period of December 1983 through 1; arch 1984 to minimize impact on the environment and users of the waterway.
