Mr. Donald Shelton Vice President, Nuclear Toledo Edison Company Edison Plaza - Stop 712 300 Madison Avenue Toledo, Ohio 4365?
Dear Mr. Shelton:
SUBJECT:
IMPLEMENTATION SCHEDULE FOR 10 CFR 50.48; FIRE PROTECTION Generic letter 86-10 " Implementation of Fire Protection Requirements" stated that the NRC would review the dockets of plants covered by 50.48 to determine the schedule deadlines for those plants and confirm those deadlines with the licensees.
We have reviewed the docket for information related to the schedule for implementation of 10 CFR 50.48 for the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station.
Based on that review, we have determined that the fire protection and alternate shutdown system modifications required to meet the regulations are scheduled by Toledo Edison Company to be completed by the end of the sixth refueling outage. This is expected to occur by late sumer of 1989. Although the modifications have not been completed consistent with the schedule requirements of 10 CFR 50.48, continued operation of the plant has been allowed because of your compensatory measures which have been approved by the NRC.
If the schedule identified above is not correct, please contact your NRC Project Manager not later than May 15, 1987. You should notify the NRC Project Manager when the required modifications to bring the plant into compliance with the regulation have been completed.
Furthermore, if ~a schedule delay develops you should notify the NRC Project Manager.
These notifications should be in writing.
