Dear Mr. Stolz:

On June 2, 1982 (Log No. 1009) Toledo Edison was issued a Safety Evaluation Report (SER) relating to Appendix R and Paragraph 50.48 (c)(4) 10 CFR 50 for Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station Unit No. (DB-1).

The SER concluded that the proposed modifications to provide alternate service water capability meets the requirements of 10 CFR 50.48, Appendix R, Section III. G.3 and III. L with respect to safe shutdown in the event of a fire.

Toledo Edison's submittals of March 19. 1981 (Serial No. 697) and April 29, 1982 (Serial No. 815) contained the design information for the proposed modification to the alternate dedicated service water system.

The system will be installed within thirty (30) months of the date of NRC acceptance (June 2,1982) in accordance with 10 CFR 50.48 (c)(4).
