3.0 INSTRUCTION 3.1 INSTALLATION j

All cable t'erminations (excluding lighting) shall be performed in accordance with Reference 1D.

Termination inspections shall be performed on safety related Class lE' cables. - All clas s lE

6.9 KV cable terminations shall be witnesse.d.

A random sur-vei11ance of terminations other than 6.9 KV shall be perform-ed once every working shift and shall include witnessing a minimum of ten class 1E cable terminations.

If there are less than ten terminations available for inspection, witne'ssing is not required.

These inspections shall consist of, but are not limited to the following items:

a.

Verify terminal connections.

All cables shall be terminated in accordance with app' roved design drawings.

Verify proper tools.

Criteria ~:

All crimping ank compression tools shall be of the enlibra'ted type. The appropriate dies to be used are to be in accordance with Figure.1.

Verify proper. lug or connector type.

c Criteria-All te m+"=T lugs or connectors shall be the compression solder-less type, of high conductivity, tin placed copper. All hard-ware shall be approved and the correct size as required by design drawing.or vendor instructions and all connections shall be wrench tight.

d.

Verify insulation trimmed.

Criteria:

Co"d - m insulation shall be squarely cut and contiguous with consacrer barrel. Any nicking or indentation of conductors shar be subject to owners inspection and approval. The length of.cahle-2xposed should 'ae such length as recommended by the connector vendor, and must be visible from the inspection hole but noc protruding out where, screw cones in contact. Unless specifically recommended by the connnector manufacturer 1/4" length berveen the connector barrel and cable insulation is an acceptable installation.

Verify preparation of conductor surface.

Criteria:

l Bare copper contact, su'rfaces shall be cleaned and wire brushed.

t Copper or aluminum contact surfaces which are tinned shall not be wire brushed or otherwise abraded.

. surfaces shall be. liberally coated with suitable joint com-pound and wire brushed through'the compound. Excess compound l

shall not be wiped from aluminum contact surfaces before bolt-ing. Joint compound shall be applied to all mating contact surfaces where one of the connecting pads is aluminum, whether tinned or bare.

Verify bolted connections.

t criteria:

Bolted joints betwetn cable terminal pads an'd equipment terminal pads, buses, or other cable terminals shall be made with standard, coarse threaded, stainless' steel,

hexhead bolts, hex nuts, flat washers, and Bellevine

~~ ~

spring washer.if either' pad is aluminum. 'Bellevine washers having a placed coating shall,not be used' under any ciri:umstances. For copper-to-copper connections, silicone bronze hardware is acceptable and Bellevine washers are~ not required. An other bolted joints shall,

have lock washers. Bolt lengths shall be selected to p.rovide full. thread in the nut, with the shortest standard bolt giving not less 'than two threads protruding through the nut Bolts, nuts and flat washers shall meet the requirements of ASLM-A307, Specification for Carbon Steel Externally and Internally Threaded Standard Fasteners.

Benevine string washers, where used, shall be located under the nut, with the, concave side toward the joint, and a standard flat washer shall be used under the Belleville

~

washer. If,the bolthead bears on a tinned surface, a standard flat washer shall be used under the bolthead to prevent abrasion of the placed ein coating. The source, thick =ess, and catalog. identifications of the Belleville washers pr: posed for use shall be subject to the approval of the ovaur before purchase.

For an other terminations a random inspection shan be perfor=ad in accordance with Reference 1-F.

,ions and transition joints shall be made under ambient con-ditions specified by manufacturer's instructions and ES-100 speed'desti=n b.

Vertfy esble shielding.

Crt aria:

Particular care shall be used in the ter=ination and ground-ing of cable shielding. The shield of single conductor shielded esble shall be terminated as indicated on latest approved engineers drawings or, if location is not shown, at the'switchgear end only.

3.3 SPLICING.

Cables shall be installed from supply point to utilization device without splices unless specifically called for on the engineers drawings.

3.4 TECHNICAL REQUIRIMENTS 1

Verify 600V Copper #6 awg and larger.

However,, shields at electric penetrations shall not be terminated.

Cable sizes 250 mcm and larger.

Terminal lugs.shall be the long barrel type having two cable compression indents.

Verify 600 7 'ower and Control #8 awg and smaller.

Term nni lugs'shall be insulated. For insulated terminals two (2) c.i=os, one on the conductor and one on the -insulat-ion per man =facturers recommendations.

Verify 600 V instrument cable and thermocouple wire.

Criteria:

Termina:ica and shielding connections for instrument and

' signal cables shall be as shown on wiring diagrams. Shield grounds en be applied only at points indicated on the dravW.

  • 3.6 DOCUMENTATION l

Acceptance of ce=pleted cable terminations and transition joints shall be.acco=plished by signing and dating the appropriate origin and destination cards. In addition, randoms shall also be docu-mented per Reference 1-B on Figure 2.,
