2.0 GENERAL 2.1 PURPOSE AND SCOPE The purpose of this Quality Instruction is to supplement Refer-ence 1-A and to provide inspection criteria and techniques for electrical QC personnel in the accomplishecent of " Verify Termi-nations and Splices."

5 3.0 INSTRUCTION VERIFi ;ERMINATIONS AND SPLICES F

3.1 . -

3.1.1 Termination of Cable Cable shall be terminated in accordance with the latest approved Engineering drawings. The QC Inspector shall assure the printed color-code for wire circuit to phase is as follows:

Phase A B C N Col or-Code Black Red Blue White .

Conductor insulation shall be squarely and evenly cut by a mt.ch-anical wire stripping tool, without nicking the wire. (1/4" length between the connector barrel and cable insulation is an acceptable installation.) Extreme care shall be exercised to avoid any nicking and indentation of the conductors. Any nicking and indentation shall be documented per Reference 1-B.

1 l Cable splices in lighting branch circuits shall only be made in l fixtures or junction boxes .tml shall be made with solderless .

mechanical canpression type connectors having separate insulating sleeves, unless otherwise noted on drawings. Nylon insulation wire joints. T and B Type Rp12 (* Tool-TB2130) or equal are ac-ceptable for lighting wire splicing.

Splices shall not be pulled through conduit.

The QC Incpector shall assure the circuit breaker size at point of temination is per the latest approved Engineering drawings.

  • NOTE: The maximum wires allowed using the RP12 connector .

shall be either three (3) #10 A.W.G. size or four (4)

  1. 12 A.W.G. size.

3.1.2 flinnber of Conductors in boxes:

The following Table 1 shall be used to detemine maximum allowable of same conductors in pull boxes.

For combinations of conductors sizes shown in Table 1 the following shall apply :

Also, the maximum number and size of conductors listed on Table 1 l shall not be exceeded.

l 10TE: 1. A conductor running through the box shall be counted as one conductor, and each conductor originating outside of the box and tenninating inside the box is counted as one conductor.

2. A deduction of one conductor shall be made for one or more grounding conductors antering the box.

3.2 00CUMENTATION Documentation shall be as per Reference 1-A.
