From: G. N. Cook /[

Subject:

follow-up contact with alleger Mr. Staggs cal. led today to check on the progress of his allegation. I indicated that we were in the early stages of the preocess and that it might be com2 time before we resoved the concern. Staggs said the article on the alcctricians claims should be published soon, and,I again asked for the names 4

of the electricians. Staggs said he has asked the one fired electrician to call us directly. Staggs further defined the deficiency tags hung on improperly completed work as "NCRs", which we interpreted to mean "non-conformance report."

I checked with Roy Zimmerman to see if the electrician had called. He had not.

I later called Staggs back asked for the names of the electricians who had

!, agre'ed to be quoted in the upcoming article. Staggs said one of the

olectricians is a Thomas Tait, and that Tait is the electrician who was fired.

l Latsr, I checked with Roy Zimmerman and found that he had tried to contact all the persons named Tait in the Phoenix phone book without finding the right I individual. I again called Staggs, who gave me a phone number which I passed

on to Roy Zimmerman.

Mr. StaQgs stated that he could not provide his source's namo at this timo; however, his name will be included in a newspaper article to be printed on September 16, 1985. The f ol lowi ng information was provided by Mr. Staggc.

o An electrical bun associated with the Unit 2 main transformer had tilver plating poeling of f when installed. The alleger, another electrician. and an engineer observed the poeling which they felt would result in the device becoming hot; ther eby l essening its conduc ti vi ty. They inf ormed Bechtel DC of the concern. They were told the manuf acturer of the equipment went out of business or the manufacturer was bought out by another company and the tr antf armer / bus was no 1onger mado. They were further tald that it would be too e::punsive to replace the transf ormer/ bus. The alleger's opinion f r. that the transformor/ bus would not work for 1ong.
