SUBJECT:

SupMARY OF TELEPHONE CONFERENCE TO DISCUSS WESTINGHOUSE AP600 RADI0 ACTIVE WASTE SYSTEMS (CHAPTER 11) OPEN ITEMS i ! The subject telephone conference was held on February 20, 1997, between i Jim Winters, Don Lindgren, and Gordan Isrealson of Westinghouse and Chang Li i and Diane Jackson of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff. The l purpose of the telephone conference was-to discuss certain unresolved open i items related to standard safety analysis report (SSAR) Chapter 11 as detailed j in the NRC letter dated January 31, 1997. The open ite,n tracking system 1 (0ITS) should be updated to reflect this telephone conference. Attached are ! recent facsimiles from Westi::yhouse sent to the staff to facilitate the I review. Westinghouse will docket these facsimiles at a later date, i i 01 11.1-2 (OITS# 3424) - Action W (1) Westinghouse will revise SSAR Figure 11.2-1 to include the piping from the mobile equipment to the waste holdup tanks. (2) Westinghouse needs to address the staff concern of sufficient information and legibility of the piping and instrumentation drawings and system figures. 01 11.1-6 (OITS# 5008) - Action W Westinghouse believes that the interested information already exists in the , SSAR. Westinghouse will provide the staff references. Additionally, Westing- I house will provide via facsimile a copy of revised Table 3.2-3 for the  ! radioactive waste systems. This SSAR revision is scheduled to be submitted on I February 28, 1997. ' 01 11.2-5 (OITS# 1171) - Action W ) Westinghouse will clarify the SSAR Section 11.1; Table 11.1-2 and T;chnical l Specification (TS) basis for 3.4.11 to reflect the 1 percent feel failure j assumption (except for TS limits on iodine and noble gases). 01 11.2-6 (OITS# 1172) - Action W /{}  ; Westinghouse will revise the wording in SSAR Subsection 11.5.6.4 and Appen- ' dix 1A regarding the QA program to be similar with SSAR Subsection 11.3.

                                                                                             \

l February 21, 1997 OI 11.2-8 (OITS# 5004) - Action W Westinghouse needs to provide legible P& ids with sufficient information included. OI 11.5-2 (OITS# 1187) - Action N Westinghouse clarified for the staff that the radiation monitors were not included in Table 3.2-3 because they were not a fluid system. Westinghouse i has included them in Table 11.5-1 and included a pointer in. Subsection l 11.5.1.1 to subsection 7.1.4 for equipment qualifications. The staff will review this information. , t i 01 11.5-9 (OITS# 1194) - Action N  ! Westinghouse clarified for the staff that information already existed in the i SSAR that identified provisions for sampling iodine activity. They pointed the staff to Figure 11.5-4 and Subsection 11.5.2.3 (p. 11.5-9 and -10). The staff will review this information.  ! OI 11.5 (OITS# 1195) Confirm W i Westinghouse sent the staff a draft markup of SSAR Table 9.3.3-2 on Decem-ber 26, 1996, (attached) via facsimile. This proposed change is acceptable. Westinghouse will include this in Revision 11 of the SSAR. OI 11.5 (OITS# 1197) Confirm W Westinghouse sent the staff a draft markup of SSAR Table 9.3.3-2 (Sheet 3 of 4 only) on December 27, 1996, (attached) via facsimile. This proposed change is acceptable.
