2.0 PURPOSE ann SCOPi l

i The purpose of this instruction is to provide the criteria and frequency to be used when performing verification of l

seismic wall and ceiling mounted component support base plates located in Seismic Category I Buildings for grouting i

in accordance with the requirements of Reference 1-A.

Floor mounted base plates receiving dry pack material or grout do -

j not fall within the scope of this instruction.

3.0 INSTRUCTION l

3.1 BASE PLATE GROUTING AND SHIMMING 3.1.1 Inside Containment Use l

j Gaps between the base plate and the concrete shall not exceed 1/16" for a minimum of 80% of the base plate. The I

gap between the plate and concrete for a maximum of 20% of the plate may exceed 1/16 inch but at no point shall the i

gap exceed 1/2 inch.

The gaps shall be measured fran the i

l periphery of the base plate (See attached example).

If j

3.1.2 Outside Containment Use Gaps between the base plate and the concre i shall not exceed 1/16" for a minimum of 80% of the base plate. The gap between the plate and concrete for a maxicui of 20% of the plate may exceed 1/16 inch but at no poir,t shall the gap exceed 1 inch.

The gaps shall be measu ed Nora tl,e periphery of the base plate (See attached ' 1 pie).

If these conditions cannot be met the gap shaii be filled with epoxy grout.

3.1.3 Shim material may consist of steel chim plates or washers of a size necessary to allow proper Hilti bolt torquing without

{

base plate deformation.

The grout fill holes shall be 1/4" diamater and shall not be drilled within 1 inch of a concrete anchor.

Additionally, the grout fill holes shall be located outside the bolt hole pattern.

NOTE:

Floor mounted conponent supports that are not j

flush ' mounted requi re shimming and grouting and shall be ve ri fi ed by Quality Control inspectors t

per Reference 1-D.

s I

3.2 DOCUMENTATION I

Inspections shall be recorded on an Inspection Report in j

accordance with Reference 1-B.

This Inspection Report may be included as attributes on an Inspection Report generic I

to a specific hanger inspection instruction (i.e., Class 5 -

pipe suppo rts, conduit supports) as outlined in that specific instruction.

j Hangers inspected by the craft as required per Reference 1-C do not require e. Bearing Inspection Report (Attachment 2) written for grout placement purposes.

All unsatisfactory conditions shall be documented on an IR and/or a NCR per Reference 1-8.

IR's shall be processed l

as directed by the QA/QC Supervisor.

I A reject tag may be applied to "unsat" items per Reference 1-E.

adequate bearing.

This "wal kdown" shall be a minimum frequency of ten baseplates of each type of attached item (pipe support, cable tray hanger, structural platfom, etc.)

t in each area, but not more than twenty of each item. This "walkdown" inspection shall be documented on an Inspection l

Report (Attachment 3).

i Defici enci es identified during this "wal kdown" shall be reviewed by the applicable QA/QC Supervisor for evaluation of a change in inspection frequency in the affected area.

If further inspection is required, the Inspection Report i

(Attachment 3) shall designate the required frequency.
