AFFADAVIT OF JOHN C. KAMMEYER John C. Kammeyer,-being duly sworn, deposes and states as follows:

1.

My name is John C. Kammeyer, I am employed by the Stone & Webster Engineering Corporation at the Shoreham Nuclear Power Station.

My current job title is DRQR Program Manager.

Among.other things, my responsibilities include engineering matters related to the Shoreham diesel generators.

A copy of my resume is attached.

2.

The purpose of this affidavit is to provid information concerning the expected hours of operatitu of the emergency diesel generators at LILCO's Shoreham Nucl.uc Power Station.

3.

The expected life of the Shoreham Nuclear Power Station is 40 years.

The emergency diesel generators at Shoreham are each expected to operate for an approximate total of 4,500 hours0.00579 days <br />0.139 hours <br />8.267196e-4 weeks <br />1.9025e-4 months <br />.

Each diesel generator is expected to operate for approximately 1,300 hours0.00347 days <br />0.0833 hours <br />4.960317e-4 weeks <br />1.1415e-4 months <br /> during pre-operational testing.

Surveillance test runs will be performed pursuant to NRC Reg.

Guide 1.108 S C.2.c. These tests will be conducted during the intervals between refueling cycles.

A conservative estimate for test run hours for each engine to be performed within each 18 month refueling cycle is 65 hours7.523148e-4 days <br />0.0181 hours <br />1.074735e-4 weeks <br />2.47325e-5 months <br />.

There fore, it is anticipated over the 40 year life of the plant, each engine could operate for a total of approximately 1,733 hours0.00848 days <br />0.204 hours <br />0.00121 weeks <br />2.789065e-4 months <br /> during the surveillance test runs.

Twenty-seven hours of periodic operational testing of the diesel generators could be required between each refueling cycle pursuant to NRC Reg. Guide 1.108 S C.2.a.

Based on an expected 40 year life of plant, and on an 18 month refueling cycle, each engine is expected to operate for approximately 720 hours0.00833 days <br />0.2 hours <br />0.00119 weeks <br />2.7396e-4 months <br /> during periodic testing.

The Probabilistic Risk Assessment for Shoreham Nuclear Power Station, estimates a loss of offsite power event to occur once each 13 years or approximately 4 times over the 40 year life of the plant.

Based on a conservative estimate of seven days of continuous diesel engine operation for each LOOP event, each engine should see approximately 672 hours0.00778 days <br />0.187 hours <br />0.00111 weeks <br />2.55696e-4 months <br /> of operation in LOOP events.

The' total number of hours of operation for each emergency diesel gnerator at the Shoreham Nuclear Power Station is anticipated to be approximately 4,500 hours0.00579 days <br />0.139 hours <br />8.267196e-4 weeks <br />1.9025e-4 months <br /> over the 40 year life of the plant.
