Dear Ms. Rice:

This is in partial response to your letter dated February 1,1984, in which you requested, pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act (F01A),

14 categories of records concerning the Midland Nuclear Plant.

By 4

letter dated March 15, 1984, you added two additional categories of records and summarized your understanding of the clarification of the 4

scope of the request as determined during a conference call on March 14 between staff of your firm ~and the NRC.

On April 16, James Goold and Andy Running of your firm visited NRC headquarters offices to inspect the records on Midland which are maintained by Eugene Gallagher; records related to discovery which are maintained by William Paton; and one box of records provided by Bechtel to NRC staff and two other boxes of. records related to depositions which are maintained by Joseph Kane. Or. April 26, we mailed to you four boxes of i

records, as identified on enclosed Appendix A, which Messrs. Goold and d

Running requested on April 16.

Since then, the remaining requested records from among Mr. Gallagher's records have been copied and were provided to Mr. Goold at thc time of his second visit to headquarters l

offices, on May 14 and May 15.

In addition, on April 26, 27 and 30, you inspected and your contractor microfilmed five boxes of records maintained by Robert Warnick and the f

Reactor Project Branch 1 (which superseded the Office of Special Cases) as well as various staff members of the Division of Engineering at NRC's Region III office.

j Also, on March 2, this office sent to you computer printouts of central files records on Midland, from which you requested.certain records by-l letter dated March 26.

Copies of some of these_ records were also provided to Mr. Goold on May 15.

1 Carol M. Rice, Esquire On May 14 and 15, James Goold and Michael Siebert of your firm visited NRC headquarters offices to inspect subject records which are maintained by Joseph Kane and other pertinent staff members in NRC's Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation.

At that time, they also inspected subject records identified by the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards and additional records maintained by NRC's Office of Executive Legal Director related to a 1983 discovery by the Government Accountability Project.
