HVAC SYSTEMS (TAC #52311) 1 Task Interface Agreement 83-78 requested technical assistance to Region III from the Mechanical Engineering Branch (MEB) and the Materials Engineering Branch (MTEB), Division of Engineering, regarding the structural design adequacy of the Midland safety related ventilation (HVAC) systems.

MTEB performed an on-site review of the materials incorporated into the Midland HVAC system.

The purpose of this revieis was to verify that the material incorporated Y

into the construction wa, the material called out in the design and pro-I curement. Additionally, the limited testing performed on a number of t

metal samples removed from the installed Midland HVAC systems was also reviewed.

In summary, this investigation did not disclose any materials discrep-ancies that would be expected to cause operating problems with the HVAC system as. installed at Midland, although some of the installed material g.

was apparently not in compliance with the appropriate specification.
