SUBJECT:
SUSPENDING THE ENVIRONMENTAL QUALIFICATION DEADLINE 29, 1983 asked for an interpre-Your memorandum of March tation of the rule promulgated by the Commission on June 30, 1982.
47 Fed. Reg. 28863 (June 30, 1982).
The rule sus-pended a requirement included in all nuclear power plant operating licenses then in force that safety-related elec-trical equipment be environmentally qualified by July 1, In the Statement of Consideration for the rule the 1982.
Commission referred to staff analyses of each licensee's justification for continued operation at each plant and stated:
"On the bases of these analyses, the Commission has determined that continued operation of these plants pending completion of the equipment qualification program will not present undue risk to the public health and safety."
