REDRAFT OF FEDERAL REGISTER NOTICE ON SPENT FUEL GENERIC IMPACT STATEMENT L

Purpose:

To provide the Commission with a draf t Federal Register notice clarifying the status of the generic environmental impact statement on spent; fuel storage, with changes suggested by Commissioner-Gilinsky.

Discussion:

On Monday, January 19, the Commission discussed SECY-A-80-196 and SECY-81-37.

At that meeting, Commissioner Gilinsky expressed the view that the draft Federal Register notice in SECY-A-80-196 could be improved by certain clarifying additions.

The second page of the draft notice has been revised in accordance with his proposed changes and ELD's comments.

Commission Staff Office comments, if any, should be submitted to the Commissioners NLT January 30, 1981, with an information copy to the Office of the Secretary.

If the paper is of such a nature that it requires additional time for analytical review and comment, the Commissioners and the Secretariat should be apprised of when comments may be expected.

This paper is tentatively scheduled for affirmation at an Open Meeting during the Week of February 9, 1981.
