lCl ,y, We respectfully submit this petition for leave to intervene op-Dockets No., 50-424 and 50-425 concerning* Georgia Power's request for an amendment to their license to operate Nuclear Plant Vogtle in Burke County, Georgia.

1) Our right to be party to the proceedings lies in our past recog-nition as intervenor at the Georgia Public Service' Commission on the Vogtle I rate increase request case and at the Atomic Energy Commission and the Nuclear Reuslatory Commission in the licensing construction pro-ceedings for Vogtle Nuclear Plant.
2) Our interest in.the proceeding stems from a call to help pre-serve and protect the health,. lives and property of the Georgians and the citizens of the surrounding area which could potentially be affected by the conditions operating at Plant Vogtle.
3) Specifically our concern is with Georgia Power's request to bypass the higi. jacket water temperature switch on the backup generator, that caused the March 20, 1990, accident.at Plant Vogtle. The switch is designed to keep coolant running toward the engine of the emergency gen-erator. .c tnis switen is oypasseo tne pctentiaA tor une generator engine t to overheat is increased. If the generator, engine were damaged no power would be available for the plant site. At a minimur, we request that Georgia Power acquire a switch that works. .

Respectfully yours, 9008070379 900727 Glenn Carroll for DR ADOCK 0500 4 Georgians Against Nuclear Energy .
