PLAllT VISIT BY llRC FIRE PROTECTI0il STAFF MBIBERS Your March 17, 1981 letter requested exemptions from Sections III.G.2 and III.J of Appendix R to 10 CFR 50 (Fire Protection). In performing our reviewoof your request, we had numberous telephone discussions with members of your staff. We were unable to resolve all of our concerns, and thus find that an inspection of the fire protection provisions of the Rancho Seco plant is neeessary.

We propose to conduct the fire protection review on Feburary 18, 1982, and request that Mr. David Thorpe (or another individual familiar with your fire protection features) be aba11able for consultation with pur staff members.

The inspection will last one day, and we will need to enter all accessible areas addressed in your !! arch 17, 1981 exemption request.
