Mr. Roger S. Boyd Page 2 December 15, 1976 The following comments apply to Amendment 7:
(1)
All outstanding Round 2 NRC requests have been responded to in the amendment.
In those cases where all or a portion of the requested information could not be provided at this time, a commitment date for providing the infor-
, ha {
mation has been provided in_the response.
In summary, the following reque_sh require a commitment to supply W j
,y information at a later date:
022.6 110.41 212.231 033.49 122.12 221.55 110.40 211.2 311.6 212.227 (2)
As requested by the Staff, additional information has been provided in Section 5.5.1 to clarify and expand on the B6W design bases for reactor coolant pump and motor auxiliaries.
This information also provides a partial response to NRC request 211.2, which will be responded to in full by January 15, 1977 4
bnred (3)
It was also requested by the Staff that wea efera.ce an applicable analysis for a postulated RV head drop accident and include appropriate interfaces in the B-SAR.
In this regard we reference an analysis made for the WPPSS units NNP 1 and WNP 4(docket numbers 50-460 and 50-513) as generally applicable to the Babcock 205.
The analysis performed for these units is described in a letter from D.
L. Renberger to John F. Stolz, "WPPSS Nuclear Projects Nos. 164, Proposed Design Changes," April 23, 1975.
Interfaces have been included in B-SAR sections 5.7.11 and 5.7.15 to restrict both allowable crane path and maximum li f t when the crane is carrying the RV head.
(4)
Chapter 1 of the B-SAR has been expanded and clarified to assure a clear delineation between B6W and Applicant scope of design responsibility.
(5)
Appendix 15B to the B-SAR, which described TRAP, the B6W Transient Program for Steam and Feedwater Line Breaks, has been deleted with this amendment.
This program has since been submitted to the Staff for generic review as Topical Report BAW-10128
" Fortran Program for Digital Simulation of the Transient Behavior of the Once-Through Steam Generator and Associated Reactor Coolant System."
' 'abcock & Wilcox Mr. Roger S. Boyd Page 3 December 15, 1976 (6)
In response to a request by Staff, the information submitted in Amendment 6 response to request 012.36 has been supplemented with additional data (Table 9.2-4) to provide decay heat generation during the 0 to 6 hour6.944444e-5 days
0.00167 hours
9.920635e-6 weeks
2.283e-6 months
time period following shutdown.
(7)
NRC request 221.53 requires B6W to submit sample cases for CIIATA and TEMP.
This request was discussed with the Staff and it has been agreed that, considering the volume of paper involved, it would be most expedient to submit this information under separate cover (Reference 6) and that it would not be necessary to include this information directly in the B-SAR.
(8)
NRC request 221.61 and a portion of request 221.54 requires submittal of information that is considered proprieta ry to the BGW Company.
The requested information has therefore been submitted under separate cover letter (Re ference 5) as a proprietary portion of this amendment.
(9)
The responses to requests 121.4, 212.222, 212.229, 212.230, 221.45, 221.51, 222.11, 222.17 and 231.36 which were submitted earlier in the form of a November 17 letter submittal (Re ference 7), have been formally included in the B-SAR as part of this amendment.
(10)
Other items requested by the Staff which will be submitted in the next amendment to B-SAR include adding additional interface references in Table 1.7-1 and a review of Section 9.5.1 to confirm the list of NSSS items which should be considered in the design of fire protection systems and to reference the applicability of NRC Sta f f requirements concerning i
fire protection as presented in SRP 9.5.1 to the NSS scope of design.
l l
, _ Babomst a Vrikos Mr. Roger S. Boyd Page 4 December 15, 1976 (11)
This amendment includes additional information and clarifications requested by the Staff during informal meetings and telephone conversations.
In addition, as stated in our response to NRC request 000.2, alterations by B6W to B-SAR tables and figures which are not referenced in responses to NRC questions or specifically identified by special markings on the revised page, a re listed in Attachment 1 to this letter.
