oli Docket STN 50-561 Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation ATTN:

Mr. Roger S. Boyd, Director Division of Project Management U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C.

20555

Subject:

B-SAR-205 Transmittal of Amendment 11

Dear Mr. Boyd:

The Babcock 6 Wilcox Company herewith submits sixty copies of B-SAR-205 Amendment 11 for review.

This amendment includes the following specific items:

(1)

In compliance with a telephone request by the Staff on February 4, 1977, the response to NRC request 221.57 has been amended to provide additional tabular information with regard to maximum fuel temperature reached during certain postulated accidents.

(2)

In compliance with a telephone request by the Staff on February 8, 1977, the response to NRC request 221.54 has been further amended to provide additional information.

A portion of the additional response, specifically figure 221.54-8, is considered proprietary to the B6W Company and is being submitted under a separate letter of transmittal, K. E. Suhrke to R. S. Boyd, " Transmittal of Proprietary Portion of Amendment 11," February 28, 1977.

(3)

The Staff position stated in NRC request 211.2 has been modified to re flect the change in Staff position transmitted to B6W in a letter Olan D. Parr to K. E. Suhrke, " Staff Position on Component Cooling Water Supply to Reactor Coolant Pumps," dated February 9, 1977.

While the revised Staff position does not require any changes to the B6W position, the existing response to request 211.2 has been revised for clarification.

The title of section 15.1.9 has been revised to clarify that this postulated accident is not limited to a loss of offsite power.

This section actually assumes both the loss of offsite power and a coincident turbine trip.

(5)

Figure 6.3-8 has been revised to show correct valve numbering and to indicate the proper arrangement for the pump PIB suction connection to the sump recirculation piping.

(6)

Section 1.4.1.2 has been revised to clarify that the ESFAS-II design is specified for the Babcock 205.

(7)

Section 15.1.10.2.3 has been revised under the subtitle,

" Increase in Feedwater Flow", to eliminate any inference that steam temperature is used in the Babcock 205 to control feedwater flow.

(8)

In compliance with a request by the Staff, the responses to questions 022.1, 022.5, 022.13, 042.1, 042.2, 042.3, and section 6.2.1.2.2 have been revised to make them compatible with the major revisions made in Amendment 8 to the B-SAR-205 to sections 6.2 and 6.3.

s Very truly yours, b<-
