Gentlemen:
This letter is in regard to the establishment of a schedule for h
our review of your application for a Preliminary Design Approval for the Nuclear Steam Supply System described in your BSAR-205 Standard Safety Analysis Report. We have evaluated our workload and your application, and based on this evaluation we estimate our Prospective Decision Date to be June 13, 1977.
A surinary of the more important milestones is provided as an enclosure for your

fnformation and review, based on information available at this y
time.
It should be realized that the enclosed dates are target i
milestones which may require some changes as the review proceeds.

While sie will not inform you, by letter, of minor changes to the 3
schedule, we will confirm, in writing, significant changes to the t-schedule.
During the course of the review we will inform y.ou as early as I
possible of areas of design and analysis that do not meet our
[
requirements and the latest date on which new information is required 1
to avoid a schedule delay. To avoid carrying outstanding items into the SER, we intend to complete all necessary actions on them prior to SER preparation.
If this can not be done in a timely fashion
[
the schedule may need to be slipped to provide additional time to I
resolve these issues prior to issuance of a Preliminary Design Approval.
Any matters of disagreement or areas of uncertainty which might arise during the review of your application should be discussed promptly g.
with the project manager.
If he cannot resolve them himself he will 0
arrange.for a meeting with appropriate uanagement to discuss them.
This will avoid unnecessary schedule delays.

Babcock & Wilcox Company Apg '2 21976 Many of the milestones of the staff review require specific input, preparation, or participation from you, such as responses to eyestbns, qd6stidns;s, ACRS meetings and responses to public and agency concents.
For this reason, we believe that you should critically review the dates associated with these important milestones and advise us as to whether you believe the dates are realistic or should be adjusted. After you have reviewed these milestones and associated dates, I suggest that a representative of your corporate organization telephone Mr. Thomas Cox, the Licensing Project Manager for the BSAR-205 review, to discuss the schedule.
This discussion should be scheduled sometime within the next two weeks.
