INTRODUCTION By letter dated August 12, 1981 the licensee (Duke Power Company) proposes 1

modifications to the Technical Specifications for tne McGuire Nuclear Station, i

Unit 1 ~ regaraing tne auxiliary feeawater low suction pressure instrument l

channels..The McGuire auxillary feeawater (AFW) system consists of two motor l

d-iven pumps and ore turoine ariven pump normally aligned to take suction l

from tne non-seismic condensate storage tank (CST). When low suction pressure is sensea at any AF. pump, its suction patn is transferred from tne CST to tne l

seismically qualified nuclear service water system Dy opening two valves in series in tnat pumo's suction path.

Tnere are two Dressure switches in tne suction line to eacn motor driven AFW pump. Low pressure must be sensed Dy botn of tnese cnannels tone pressure swicen per valve) to effect a transfer.
