Southern California Edison Actions Related To NFS-4 Serial No. NAC-1E Shipping Cask Paragraph (2) of my letter to you dated October 2, 1980 on the same subject stated that you should not remove the subject cask from the restricted area, open, or work on the cask in any manner without prior NRC approval.
Based on a telephone discussion on April 23, 1981 between Mr R. Warnock of your staff and Mr G. Yuhas of this office, and the March 22, 1981 letter from Mr Charles E. MacDonald, Chief, Transportation Certification Branch, Division of Fuel Cycle and Material Safety, NMSS, to the cask owner (Nuclear Assurance Corporation),you have PRC approval to remove the cask from your restricted area provided that this is accomplished prior to May 10, 1981 in accordance with all applicable regulatory requirements.
In additico, we understand that arrangements have been made with Energy Systems Group, Rockwell International Corporation to quantify the amount and isotopic composition of the material removed from the cask.
Approval is herein provided for the above activity.
Should my under-standing as stated above not be correct, you should notify this office promptly in writing.
