Dear Mr'. Carey:
SUBJECT:
BEAVER VALLEY UNIT 2 - GRANTING OF RELIEF FROM CERTAIN REQUIREMENTS OF 10 CFR 50.55a<(TAC:62870;.andL62873) y r
By letter dated April 15, 1987 you submitted the Beaver Valley Power Station Unit No. 2 Inservice Testing (IST) Program and associated relief requests. As we stated in SER Supplement 5, review results of the IST program and relief reauests are erected to be favorable since your submittal reflects discussions held with us in a February 11-12, 1987 meeting. On that basis, pursuant to 10 CFR 50.55a(a)(3) interim relief is hereby granted from the testing requirements as you requested in your submittal, until the end of the first refueling outage, or until a detailed review of the IST program has been completed, whichever comes first.
In addition, we have evaluated the Beaver Valley Power Station Unit No. 2 Preservice Inspection (PSI) Program which you submitted by letter dated December 26, 1985. Our detailed review is documented in Sections 5.2.4.3 and 0.6 of SER Supplement No. 5.
Additional review result will also be documented 1
t in SER Supplement No. 6.
On the basis of the review, and pursuant to d
10 CFR 50.55a(a)(3), relief is hereby granted from the PSI requirements as described in detail in SER Supplement Nos. 5 and 6.
We have detennined that the inspection and testing requirements are impractical for the items for which relief is being granted and, pursuant to 10 CFR 50.55a(g)(6)(i), that the granting of relief is authurized by law, will-not endanger life or property or the common defense and security, and is otherwise in the public interest. In making this determination, we have given due consideration to the burden that could result if those requirements were:
imposed on your facility.
Please feel free to contact your Project Manager, Mr. Peter Tam, if you need any clarification.
Sincerely,
/s/
John F. Stolz, Director Project Directorate I-4 9002150221 870702 Division of Reactor Projects I/II ADOCK0500g2 DR o
