SACRAMENTO MUNICIPAL UTILITY DISTRICT O 6201 3 street. Box 15830, Sacramento, Califernia 95813; (916) 452-3211 October 15, 1979 Mr. William Gammill Acting Assistant Director for Operating Reactors Projects Division of Operating Reactors U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission t.'ashi ngton, D. C.

Dear Mr. Gammill:

Your letter dated August 8,1979, to Pcwer Reactor Licensees requested a response by October 9,1979.

The District attempted to con-tact the NRC on October 9, 1979, and failed.

However, the District con-tacted M. Fairtile on October 10, 1979, to request an extension to October 18, 1979, for our response.

The request for an extension is based on changes that were required in the analysis due to the Rancho Seco switch-yard voltage dropping to 214KV on September 12, 1979. This voltage was lower than the minimum assumed in analysis.

To meet Guideline #6 in of your letter, it was necessary to modify the assumptions in our calculations and repeat them with a minimum expected voltage of 214KV.

Re-analysis cannot be completed until October 18, 1979.

M. Fairtile agreed that an extension to October 18, 1979, was acceptable and requested a written follow-up.

This letter is the written follow-up requested.

Sincerely,

~(eh h,w ohn J. Mattimoe Assistant General Manager and Chief Engineer S
