SUMMARY

SALEM UNIT NO. 1 TENTH REFUELING OUTAGE A. Southwest Research Institute will conduct the following ISI examinations as required by ASME Section XI and Technical Specifications:

98 Manual ultrasonic examinations (includes 3 year in-place flywheel examinations on two reactor coolant pumps.

152 Liquid penetrant examinations 58 Magnetic particle e~aminations 1 Visual examination of the reactor pressure vessel interior surface NOTE The examinations listed above address the second inspection period of the Salem Unit 1 second ten year inservice inspection interval. Some of the examinations may be deferred depending on subsequent outage dates, plant conditions, and satisfying minimum percentages completed and maximum percentages credited requirements of ASME Section XI.

B. Southwest Research will perform erosion/corrosion ultrasonic thickness examinations of piping identified by Engineering.

c. Westinghouse Electric Corporation will conduct:
1. Bobbin coil eddy current inspection on a random sampling of 3% of the tubes in each (11 through 14) steam generator to satisfy Technical Specification surveillance requirements.
2. Bobbin coil eddy current inspection of an additional 17% of the tubes in each (11 through 14) steam generator.

NOTE PSE&G plans to perform approximately 20% eddy current inspection of each steam generator. However, only 3% of the tubes in each steam generator will be selected to satisfy Technical Specifications surveillance requirements. Any indications noted during the 3% Technical Specification inspections will result in additional examinations as required by Technical Specifications.

Any indications noted during the non-Technical Specification inspections will be evaluated on a case by case basis and sound engineering judgement will be used for possible scope expansions.

3. MRPC of 20% of the tubes in 11 through 14 steam generators (hot leg only) to satisfy Wextex concerns.
4. Removal of explosive hot and cold leg plugs in steam Generator No. 11 followed by replugging using Inconel 690 mechanical plugs.
5. Mechanical plugging of any tube exceeding Technical Specification plugging limit in each (11 through 14) steam generator.
6. Steam generator secondary side inspection of each (11 through 14) steam generator consisting of sludge lancing and foreign object search and retrieval.
7. Helium leak test of No. 11 steam generator to locate source of the primary to secondary leakage observed.

during operation.

D. Siemens will conduct in-place functional testing of two steam generator and one main steam isolation valve hydraulic snubbers as required by Technical Specifications.

E. PSE&G Site Services Inservice Inspection Group will conduct:

1. Visual examinations of approximately 300 Nuclear Class 1, 2, and 3 supports and approximately 145 snubbers (mechanical and hydraulic) as required by ASME Section XI and Technical Specifications.
2. Visual examinations (VT-1) of Nuclear Class 1 pressure retaining bolting on approximately 20 components as required by ASME Section XI and Technical Specifications.
3. Visual examinations (VT-3) of approximately five IWF plate and shell type supports as required by ASME Section XI and Technical Specifications.
4. Functional testing of eleven mechanical snubbers as required by Technical Specifications.
5. Functional testing of all PSA 1/4 and PSA 1/2 mechanical snubbers due to their history of past failures (not included in Technical Specification sample populations.
