20555 Gentlemen:

Subject:

Docket No. 50-206 Alternate Post-Accident Sampling San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station Unit 1 By letter dated May 1,.1984, we provided you with information regarding the current status of our modifications to comply with NUREG-0737, Item II.B.3 - Post-Accident Sampling Capability. We stated that due to the time necessary to complete installation of the post-accident sampling system (PASS) at San Onofre Unit 1, we would need to reschedule the required due date to the next refueling outage. In the interim we will rely on currently available, alternate methods to provide the post-accident assessment capability that the PASS is intended to provide.

In subsequent discussions, members of the NRC staff requested more detailed information regarding the alternate post-accident sampling methods.

In response to this request, San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, Chemistry Procedure S0123-III-8.8, "Alternate Methods of Post-Accident Parameter Sampling", dated May 21, 1984, is enclosed. Attachments 8.1, 8.2 and 8.3 pertain to the methods utilized at San Onofre Unit 1.

If you have any questions regarding the enclosed information, please let me know.

Very truly yours, 8407020313 840628 PDR ADOCK 05000206 P
