UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION REGION III 2443 WARRENVILLE ROAD, SUITE 210 LISLE, IL 60532-4352 August 16, 2013 Mr. Michael J. Pacilio Senior Vice President, Exelon Generation Co., LLC President and Chief Nuclear Officer, Exelon Nuclear 4300 Winfield Road Warrenville, IL 60555

ASSESSMENT FOLLOW-UP LETTER FOR LASALLE COUNTY STATION, UNIT 2

Dear Mr. Pacilio:

As a result of our quarterly review of plant performance, the NRC updated its assessment of LaSalle County Station, Unit 2. The NRCs evaluation consisted of a review of performance indicators and inspection results. This letter informs you of the NRCs assessment of and its plans for a future inspection at your facility. This letter supplements, but does not supersede, the end-of-cycle letter issued on March 4, 2013 (ADAMS Accession No. ML13060A112).

It does change the performance designation in that letter.

The NRCs review of LaSalle County Station, Unit 2, identified that the Performance Indicator (PI) for Unplanned Scrams with Complications has crossed the Green-to-White threshold of one occurrence. On April 17, 2013, Unit 2 experienced a loss of offsite power which generated an associated scram. On April 25, Unit 2 experienced another unplanned scram after both of its circulating water pumps tripped due to a high condenser pit water level.

The NRC determined the performance at LaSalle County Station, Unit 2, to be in the Regulatory Response Column of the NRCs Reactor Oversight Process (ROP) Action Matrix beginning in the 2nd quarter of 2013. Consistent with the guidance in Inspection Manual Chapter 0305, Operating Reactor Assessment Program, the NRC will conduct a supplemental inspection using Inspection Procedure 95001, Supplemental Inspection for One or Two Inputs in a Strategic Performance Area. The objectives of the inspection are to provide assurance that the root causes and contributing causes of the risk-significant performance issues that caused the PI change are understood, the extent of condition and the extent of cause of the risk-significant performance issues are identified, and your corrective actions for the risk-significant performance issues are sufficient to address the root and contributing causes and prevent recurrence. The NRC will perform these inspections after you notify us, in writing, of your readiness for inspection.

M. Pacilio In accordance with 10 CFR 2.390 of the NRCs Rules of Practice, a copy of this letter will be available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document Room or from the Publicly Available Records System (PARS) component of NRC's Agencywide Document Access Management System (ADAMS). ADAMS is accessible from the NRC Web site at http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html (the Public Electronic Reading Room).

Sincerely,

/RA/
