SCHEDULE REVISION FOR THE ENVIRONMENTAL AND SAFETY REVIEW OF THE DAVIS-BESSE NUCLEAR POWER STATION, UNIT NO.1, LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION (TAC NO. ME4613)
Dear Mr. Allen:
By letter dated August 27,2010, FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company (FENOC) submitted an application pursuant to Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) Part 51 and 10 CFR Part 54, to renew the Operating License NPF-003 for the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station, Unit No.1 (Davis-Besse), for review by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or the staff).
By two separate letters dated September 19, 2011, FENOC submitted additional information as supplements to the license renewal application (LRA), Appendix E, Environmental Report.
These supplements contained information relating to alternatives as well as a letter from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service identifying an endangered species within the transmission line corridor.
Enclosed is the NRC staffs revised environmental review schedule for the Davis-Besse LRA.
In developing the revised environmental review schedule, the staff took several factors into consideration, including additional review of the in-depth alternatives and additional coordination with Federal, State and local governments. The environmental schedule change has no impact on the planned license renewal decision date.
Based on the number of open items, the NRC staff is evaluating the impact and will issue a revised schedule for the safety evaluation and the date of a license renewal decision, as needed, in a separate letter.

- 2 We would like to emphasize that the NRC staff will make every effort to meet the revised schedule milestones. The NRC will continue to follow established review procedures and the enclosed schedule to complete the reviews required by 10 CFR Parts 54 and 51.
