Dear Mr. Hale:

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff (NRC) in the Electrical Engineering Branch (EEEB) of the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation is reviewing the Alternate Source Term license amendment request for the Point Beach Nuclear Plant. The staff has determined that additional information is required to continue its review. In an effort to complete the review, the staff has developed draft requests for additional information (RAIs). The draft RAIs are provided as an attachment to this e-mail.

If required, the NRC staff can discuss the draft RAIs with your staff in a conference call or meeting prior to formal issuance. Among other things, the discussion will include how the NRC would formally issue these questions and how the licensee will respond to them.

The sole purpose of this e-mail and its attachment is to prepare you and others for the proposed conference call or meeting. This e-mail and its attachment do not convey a formal NRC staff position, and do not formally request for additional information.
