Research The Planning Department is the major repository of detailed demographic, economic, marketing and related data for Westchester County and its municipalities. As a designated Affiliate of the New York State Data Center, it is responsible for the compilation, interpretation and distribution of a broad range of Census and related statistical data to all County departments, municipalities and the business and institutional communities.

The Westchester County DataBook, updated November 2008, features over 200 pages of descriptive data covering subject categories ranging from Westchester's physical attributes and municipal organization to demographic and business statistics. The Databook has proven to be a reliable statistical resource for government officials, new and expanding businesses, not-for-profit organizations and individuals interested in specific or general information regarding Westchester County. Access the DataBook by chapter by clicking on the chapter headings below or click here to view the entire DataBook PDF DataBook Chapters American Community Survey The most recent population, housing, economic, and social data available from the U.S. Census Bureau are included in the American Community Survey (ACS), an annually-released data set with information obtained from surveys of the nations population.

Beginning in December 2008, ACS data will be available for areas of 20,000 or greater. In 2010, the Census Bureau will release ACS data for all areas with less than 20,000 people.

The Senior Population Changes 1990-2000 report, prepared in October 2002 analyzes results from the Census 2000 with changes that have occurred in the past decade. General population changes by 5-year cohort from 55 and over are provided.

Detailed tables on race, Hispanic origin, group quarters (nursing homes),

income, poverty status, employment status, housing tenure and cost-burdened owners/renter households are also provided.

The 2000 Population by Age, Race and Hispanic Origin report, prepared in February 2002, analyzes the general population results of Census 2000 and changes that have occurred since 1990. The population of Westchester County has reached its highest level at 923,459. Significant findings are: 1) the Hispanic population grew from 86,194 to 144,124, a 67% growth over the decade; 2) the school age population increased by 34,004 persons during the decade, a 26% increase. Data tables, graphs and municipal thematic maps are provided in the report.

The 2004 Businesses and Major Employers report above provides companies and people with an analysis of employers and industries.

The Multi-family Housing Listing, prepared in 2000, features over 141,000 housing units in over 3,300 buildings with 5 or more units per building. The report organizes the units by municipality and by type (rental, cooperative, condominium, government subsidized, subsidized-elderly, and multi-family homeowners associations).
