OF PUBLIC ENVIRONMENTAL SCOPING MEETINGS RELATED TO THE REVIEW OF THE BEAVER VALLEY POWER STATION, LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION (TAC NOS. MD6595 AND MD6596)
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff conducted environmental scoping meetings related to the review of the Beaver Valley Power Station (BVPS), Units 1 and 2, license renewal application submitted by FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company. Two public meetings were conducted on Wednesday, November 27, 2007, at the Embassy Suites, 550 Cherrington Parkway, Pittsburgh, PA 15108. Approximately 120 people attended the meetings.
The attendees included representatives of the NRC staff, members of the public, representatives from BVPS, BVPS contractors, news media, and local government officials.
Public comments and questions addressed a wide range of issues including BVPSs importance to the local economy and employment, BVPSs importance to power generation, BVPSs support to the local community, the license renewal process, and the effects of low dose nuclear emissions on health, the environment, and safety.
A combined listing of attendees for both public meetings is provided in Enclosure 1. The meeting agenda is provided in Enclosure 2. Enclosure 3 is a copy of the meeting handouts provided during the public meeting open house.
