Re: Pilgrim SEIS Ms. Lampert-I am responding to your request for State data obtained or viewed by the NRC during the Pilgrim environmental review. I have talked with the health physicists, the authors of this radiological sections, and double checked the Draft Environmental Impact Statement for Pilgrim. The spokesperson you mention in your initial email is Ms. Bobbie Hurley, leader of the EarthTech team of environmental experts working under contract for NRC. I have reviewed the transcripts of the public meeting (set to be released in the upcoming weeks as part of the Meeting Summary) and Ms. Hurley stated during the radiological findings results (Slide 18) is "during our site visit, we looked at the documentation for effluent releases and the radiological monitoring programs at the plant, as well as the Commonwealth's independent monitoring programs..." While the team did review documentation for Pilgrim 's effluent and radiological environmental monitoring programs; the teams review of the Commonwealth's independent monitoring programs consisted of discussions with representatives of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MPH). Specifically, the staff had several meetings with representatives of the MPH, Radiation Control Program regarding the Commonwealth's environmental monitoring program at and near the Pilgrim site. We requested copies of any monitoring information they may have collected on the Pilgrim site. Unfortunately, no reports or data were available. MPH verbally confirmed to staff what the Offsite Calculation Dose Manuals (OCDM), Radiological Effluent and Waste Disposal (REWD), and Radiological Environmental Monitoring Reports (REMP) have previously concluded, all releases of radiological effluents from the plant are in compliance with all related regulations, including regulations mandated by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
