Vermont Yankee Status Transmission Lines:

After extensive research and discussions with OGC and Entergy, we have concluded that the 115 Kv transmission lines from Vermont Yankee to the Coolidge Substation in Vermont (51 miles) and from Vermont Yankee to the Chestnut Hill Substation in New Hampshire (2 miles) are in scope for license renewal. The environmental impact of these lines was evaluated in the Final Environmental Statement (FES) for Vermont yankee in July 1972. The 345 Kv transmission lines to the location of the Vermont Yankee switchyard (or substation) were already planned as part of the larger New England transmission plan developed by Public Service of New Hampshire and Vermont Electric in response to the power blackouts experienced in New England in the 1960's. These lines were not evaluated in detail in the FES.

Therefore, the environmental review team needs to address the impacts associated with the transmission lines to Coolidge and Chestnut Hill.

Meetings with Vermont State Officials:

At the request of Julie Moore of the Vermont Agency for Natural Resources (ANR), I am trying to set-up a meeting of the NRC and key members of the ANL lab team with ANR during the second week of August.

I will need Kirk LaGory and Michael Masnik for sure for this meeting. ANR wants to understand the process and discuss impacts. If any additional examination of the in-scope transmission line corridors is needed, we will plan to conduct it during the same trip.

We also need to set-up a discussion with the SHPO's office in Vermont to discuss their initial expectations for this review. We may be able to do this by teleconference, but it is more likely that it will require a face-to-face meeting in Vermont also. I will need Jennifer Davis, Dan O'Rourke, and Konnie Wescott for this meeting. I will try to set it up for early July or August.

Draft SEIS Writing Session:

The draft writing session for the Vermont Yankee DSEIS is scheduled for October 2-6 at ANL's offices in Chicago. We will travel to Chicago on Monday morning, October 2 and begin work that afternoon. I hope we can finish in time for everyone to leave by Thurdsay afternoon, October 5, but we will stay until Friday if necessary.
