  • A public forum for discussion of Turkey Point performance
  • NRC will address Turkey Point performance issues identified in the annual assessment letter
  • Turkey Point management will be given the opportunity to respond to the information in the letter and inform the NRC of new or existing programs to maintain or improve their performance

Turkey Point CY2005 Assessment Results

  • Both units performance was within the Licensee Response Column of the NRCs Action Matrix for the first two quarters of the calendar year.
  • Unit 4 transitioned into the regulatory response column in the third quarter and both units in the fourth quarter.

Turkey Point CY2005 Assessment Results

  • All inspection findings were classified as very low safety significance (Green).
  • All performance indicators (PI) were Green with two exceptions - (1) The Unplanned Scrams per 7000 Critical Hours PI for unit 4 crossed the White threshold in the Initiating Events Cornerstone in the third quarter; (2) The Heat Removal System Unavailability PI for both units crossed the White threshold in the Mitigating System Cornerstone in the fourth quarter.

Turkey Point Assessment Summary

  • Florida Power and Light Company operated Turkey Point in a manner that preserved public health and safety
  • All cornerstone objectives were met
  • NRC plans baseline inspections and a 95001 supplemental inspection at Turkey Point for the remainder of CY 2006.
