This will acknowledge your letter dated January 14, 1982, informing us of the steps you have taken to correct the noncompliance which we brought to your attention in Inspection Report No. 50-483/81-25 for-warded by our letter dated December 15, 1981. We will examine these matterr during a subsequent inspection.
With respect to your response to open Item No. 50-483/81-25-02, we cannot accept your position that the instrument sensing lines are not within the scope of IEEE 279.
It is our position that instrument sensing lines properly fall under the scope of 12EE 279, and that jurisdiction starts at the sensing line connection to the process piping and includes the full length of the sensing lines, the sensor, and any signal conditioning devices as well as the transmitter.
Please provide us, within twenty days of your receipt of this letter, a written statement describing your planned actions for the identifi-cation of instrument sensing lines in accordance with IEEE 279, Paragraph 4.22.
