r r Inapecticn Summary Inspection on May 1-29, 1981 (Report No. 50-483/81-1p Areas Inspected:
Routine inspection by the IE Regional Resident Inspector (RI)--of safety-related construction activities including protection of the reactor vessel and other components of the nuclear steam system supplier;
,
(NSSS), electrical work; welding of safety related piping systems; post tensioning work on the containment building. This inspection involved 17 inspector hours onsite by one NRC inspector including 2 inspector hours onsite during off-shifts.
Results: No items of noncompliance or deviations were identified.

Functional or Program Areas Inspected 1.
Plant Tours one or more plant areas were toured several times during the re-porting period to observe general construction practices; area cleanliness and storage condition of equipment, piping, and elec-trical cable. RV head thermocouple installation was in process with Westinghouse and Quality Control Inspectors observing the activity.
No items of noncompliance or deviations were identifiel.

Containment Building Prestressing During the reporting peried the inapector observed the following a.
work associated with prestressing.
(1) The filling of tendon sheaths V-33 and V-37 with protective greasc was observed. The temperature of the grease was satis-factory and inspection personnel were observing the operation as required by procedure.
No items of noncompliance or deviations were identified.

Fabrications of Safety-Helated Piping Systems During the reporting period, the inspect or observed work including a.
handling, protecting, inspection, and welding of safety-related piping systems.
(1) Main Feed Water System 2AE-04-FW5 2AE-04-F008A (2) ' Residual Heat Removal

For, each of these welds one or more of. the following fabrication activities was observed. Handling and protection of piping and partially completed welds was satisfactory.
Purge gas was cor-rectly used. The weld area was free of any grease or particles.
The joint fit-up dimensions were within procedural requirements and the_ welders were certified as qualified for the procedure specified to be used for welding the pipe joint.
No items of noncompliance or deviations were observed.

Electrical Cable Installation-Durir.g the reporting period, the inspector observed work associated with the following cable terminations:

(1) the cables were identified, (2) a work assignment sheet was in use, (3) crimping

tools were calibrated, (4) the person assigned was certified t
qualified to perform terminations.

5. ' Nuclear Steam System Supplier (NSSS) Fquipment The inspector observed the inplace storage and protection of NSSS components and piping.
The piping assemblics, reactor vessel internals, and reactor vessel head were properly stored and protected.

The inspector participated in meetings with Resident Inspectors at Region III Offices in Glen Ellyn, Ill. during the period May 11-15, 1981.
The inspector participated in'an audit of SNUPPS activities in Gaithersburg, Maryland during the period May 20-22, 1981. The inspection will be docu-mented in Inspection Report 50-483/81-12.
