RCS Leak Rate Determination a.
Procedure Review The inspector reviewed Surveillance Test Procedure No. 5042.02,
"RCS Water Inventory Balance," and verified that the procedure was technically adequate and consistent with regulatory require-ments.
b.
Surveillance Requirements Technical Specifications require that Reactor Coolant System (RCS) leakage shall be limited to 10 gpm identified leakage and 1 gpm unidentified leakage and that a RCS water inventory balance be performed at least once per 72 hours8.333333e-4 days
0.02 hours
1.190476e-4 weeks
2.7396e-5 months
during steady state operation when in Modes 1, 2, 3, or 4.
The inspector noted that the licensee conducts this test on a daily basis.
c.
RCS Leak Rate Evaluation A four hour RCS water inveatory balance was performed on September 21, 1981. The inspector independently monitored and evaluated leak rate data to verify the licensee's calculation of the leak rate.
There was acceptable agreement between the inspector's and licensee's leak rate calculations as indicated in the following summary (units are in gpm):
Measurement Licensee Inspector Gross leak rate 0.229822 0.24 Identified leak rate 0.081111 0.08 Unidentified leak rate 0.148711 0.16 The inspector noted that the Reactor Coolant Pump (RCP) seal leakage was identified by the licensee.
No items of noncompliance or deviations were identified.
3.
Exit Interview The inspector summarized the results of his inspection in a telephone conversation with Mr. S. Quennoz on September 25, 1981.
